AIDex was started in 1994 in the remote areas of Western Kenya by our dear friend Barry Hughes. After Barry’s passing in 2001 our family were called by God to continue the ministry Barry had begun. Today AIDex supports approximately 1300 people. The majority being students in primary , secondary, technical schools and university with widows and the sick making up the rest. We aim to help the most vulnerable and needy, many of whom are orphaned, widowed, living with disabilities and some with chronic diseases. The orphans live with extended family who are often struggling and appreciative of our help. Our aim is to provide benevolent relief & development to these distressed communities, hopefully empowering and encouraging the people we support, to equip them, to help them through their suffering and the suffering of their communities. Hopefully in time, they will raise themselves out of poverty and become self sufficent.
It is wonderful to see many of the children go on to gain education and employment and with a desire to help others. Its wonderful to see the widows with their crops harvested to help feed them and help support them financially and its lovely to see the sick helped and less deaths. So many of the ones we help with beaming smiles give testimony, thanks and gratefulness for having helped them. Now a number of past students are coming back to help and encourage and mentor the younger ones.
